Chasing the Dragon
Back in April, while in L.A., I had the pleasure of being invited on Craig McNeil's podcast Craig & Friends with Gala Avary as part of his Movie Club. We took a Michael Mann-inspired deep dive into his 1985 movie Manhunter, which proved an exploration of this classic thriller. The first onscreen appearance of Hannibal Lecter (played by Brian Cox), Manhunter is tight neo-noir that showcases all the Michael Mann signatures from impeccable (and obsessive) details - the architecture, narrative devices, framing - and presents a perfect gateway into Thomas Harris' world of murder and the procedures that follow the hunting of a serial killer.
